Publisher : Henry Holt and Co.; Illustrated Edition (September 8, 2020)
The latest installment of the multimillion-selling Killing series is a gripping journey through the American West and the historic clashes between Native Americans and settlers.
The bloody Battle of Tippecanoe was only the beginning. It’s 1811 and President James Madison has ordered the destruction of Shawnee warrior chief Tecumseh’s alliance of tribes in the Great Lakes region. But while General William Henry Harrison would win this fight, the armed conflict between Native Americans and the newly formed United States would rage on for decades. Bestselling authors Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard venture through the fraught history of our country’s founding on already occupied lands, from General Andrew Jackson’s brutal battles with the Creek Nation to President James Monroe’s epic “sea to shining sea” policy, to President Martin Van Buren’s cruel enforcement of a “treaty” that forced the Cherokee Nation out of their homelands along what would be called the Trail of Tears. O’Reilly and Dugard take readers behind the legends to reveal never-before-told historical moments in the fascinating creation story of America. This fast-paced, wild ride through the American frontier will shock readers and impart unexpected lessons that reverberate to this day.

ABOUT MICHAEL HARRISON
Michael Harrison is the editor and publisher of two of the U.S. radio industry’s leading trade publications, Talkers and RadioInfo. He is one of America’s leading authorities on radio, communications, and public opinion as it is expressed in the media as well as being director of the national Talkers Convention, currently in its 20th year. Within the U.S. radio industry, Mr. Harrison has been an innovator and visionary dating back more than four decades to his role as a pioneer of FM progressive album rock. He has written about, defined, predicted or engaged in hands-on programming of major movements in radio’s evolution from coining new format terms to the development of music and talk-topic chart methodology. Among his inventions is the term “AOR” (Album Oriented Rock) which he coined in the early 1970s to describe the more commercially-accessible brand of “progressive rock” or “underground rock” radio that remained a dominant format for more than 40 years. A graduate of Hofstra University, where he currently sits on its Department of Communications Advisory Board, Michael Harrison has served as on-air program director of such heritage stations as WLIR-FM, Long Island; KPRI-FM, San Diego; KMET-FM, Los Angeles and WZLX-FM, Boston. He was also owner/operator of WSPR in Springfield, Massachusetts. He has been an air personality at such major stations as WNEW-FM, New York; WCBS-FM, New York; WPIX-FM, New York; WTIC-AM, Hartford and others. He has hosted and produced national programs syndicated by ABC Radio Networks, Westwood One, CBS Radio, MJI Broadcasting, RKO Radio and more. Harrison served as the first managing editor of Radio & Records during its formative years and radio columnist/record chart consultant for Billboard in the early 1980s. He was one of the first media analysts to predict the rise of podcasting before the term was even widely known, not to mention PD of the first radio station to have its own website. He hosts PodcastOne’s “Up Close and Far Out with Michael Harrison” a weekly podcast geared to “media freaks” around the world.
MARC SIEGEL, a leading medical expert on the global Covid-19 pandemic and the chief medical analyst for FOX News.
COVID: THE POLITICS OF FEAR AND THE POWER OF SCIENCE
Separating FACT from FICTION in the COVID-19 Epidemic
People are afraid. COVID-19 has upended our lives as it poses new medical dangers, economic suffering and grave uncertainty about the world around us. The collateral damage is enormous, but politics invade perception. There are so many unknowns. Does a treatment work? Is a vaccine coming? How likely are you to catch COVID and how can you best protect yourself and your family? What are the real risks and what is hysteria? Where are our fear leaders? What are their agendas?
From Fox News Medical Contributor and the author of False Alarm (Wiley, 2008) comes COVID: The Politics of Fear and the Power of Science by Marc Siegel, M.D. This shocking exposé of the facts as the media covers the national pandemic news and spread of the invisible virus reinforces the notion that we must arm ourselves against fear tactics that limit our abilities to safely make decisions and protect our families in a world of uncertainty. Life for citizens of the developed world before the pandemic was safer, easier, and healthier than for any other people in history thanks to modern medicine, science, technology, and intelligence–—but COVID-19 has stolen that security and our nation’s peace of mind. Now there is a pandemic virus, as well as a crippling epidemic of fear sweeping America. Why? The answer, according to nationally renowned health commentator Dr. Marc Siegel, is that we already lived in an artificially created culture of fear that was just waiting to be unleashed. In COVID: The Politics of Fear and the Power of Science, Siegel identifies three major catalysts of the culture of fear: government, the media, and our own psyche. With fascinating, blow-by-blow analyses of the most sensational false alarms of the past few years, compounded now by the worst contagion of our lifetimes, he shows how fear mongers manipulate our most primitive instincts—often without our even realizing it. COVID shows us how to look behind the hype and hysteria, inoculate ourselves against these crippling fear tactics, and develop the emotional and intellectual skills needed to take back our lives, even as we battle the pandemic itself.
